Price for Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Spain (FOB) - 2023

The average grapes; fresh or dried export price stood at $2,646 per ton in August 2023, with a decrease of -2.5% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 24% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,236 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($3,381 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($2,069 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average grapes; fresh or dried import price stood at $2,266 per ton in August 2023, flattening at the previous month. Overall, import price indicated mild growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, grapes; fresh or dried import price decreased by -16.6% against April 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 25% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,716 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($3,215 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,927 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Spain

In 2022, shipments abroad of grapes; fresh or drieds decreased by -12.7% to 178K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 28% against the previous year.

In value terms, grapes; fresh or dried exports declined sharply to $427M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 41% against the previous year.
