Price for Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Hungary (CIF) - 2023

The average grapes; fresh or dried import price stood at $2,281 per ton in August 2023, declining by -15.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 71% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,748 per ton. From February 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($3,299 per ton), while the price for China ($1,388 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average grapes; fresh or dried export price stood at $588 per ton in August 2023, dropping by -28.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 206% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,404 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($3,945 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($472 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Hungary

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of grapes; fresh or drieds decreased by -2.9% to 18K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 234%.

In value terms, grapes; fresh or dried imports rose slightly to $32M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, shipments abroad of grapes; fresh or drieds decreased by -31.4% to 4.4K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -35.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 68% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 6.8K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, grapes; fresh or dried exports skyrocketed to $6.3M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
