Price for Grapes; Fresh or Dried in France (CIF) - 2023

The average grapes; fresh or dried import price stood at $2,021 per ton in August 2023, with a decrease of -15.3% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a perceptible expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, grapes; fresh or dried import price decreased by -25.2% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 33% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,702 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($2,975 per ton), while the price for Italy ($1,736 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average grapes; fresh or dried export price stood at $3,077 per ton in August 2023, surging by 8.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 16% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in August 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,225 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cote d'Ivoire ($1,318 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Grapes; Fresh or Dried in France

For the fourth consecutive year, France recorded growth in supplies from abroad of grapes; fresh or drieds, which increased by 7.6% to 173K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 9.7%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, grapes; fresh or dried imports fell to $298M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 14%.
