In 2022, the average import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $813 per ton, waning by -16.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a prominent increase from 2017 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last five years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses increased by +44.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 25%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $975 per ton, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($3,269 per ton), while the price for Georgia ($643 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+28.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses stood at $2,103 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -92.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 4,542%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $28,362 per ton, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($10,076 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($461 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+177.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses imported into Uzbekistan soared to 694 tons, jumping by 16% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 703 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses contracted slightly to $564K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 62%.
