The average import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses stood at $1,968 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 8.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 11%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($4,065 per ton), while the price for China ($1,397 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $4,332 per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses increased by +51.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 72%. The export price peaked at $4,868 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($11,222 per ton), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($699 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses decreased by -39.1% to 2.9K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 5K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses declined dramatically to $5.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $8.9M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses, when their volume decreased by -35.1% to 91 tons. Overall, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 122%.
In value terms, exports of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses fell remarkably to $395K in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +30.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $543K, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
