In 2022, the average import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $3,958 per ton, with a decrease of -2.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $4,820 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($6,954 per ton), while the price for China ($1,469 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In November 2023, the average export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $6,107 per ton, jumping by 32% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated modest growth from November 2022 to November 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2023 figures, export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses increased by +125.9% against August 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 an increase of 35% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $6,517 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to November 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($8,434 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($3,809 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
