Price for Fruit, Edible; Apples, Dried in Hungary (FOB) - 2023
The average fruit, edible; apples, dried export price stood at $9,273 per ton in July 2023, declining by -4.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a moderate increase from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.7% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, fruit, edible; apples, dried export price decreased by -4.9% against June 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 42% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $9,753 per ton in June 2023, and then fell modestly in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Denmark ($12,528 per ton) and Spain ($12,367 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($8,463 per ton) and Austria ($9,046 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Moldova (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average fruit, edible; apples, dried import price stood at $4,608 per ton in 2022, dropping by -39.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 79%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $12,281 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($13,995 per ton), while the price for Poland ($2,251 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Fruit, Edible; Apples, Dried in Hungary
In 2022, the amount of fruit, edible; apples, dried exported from Hungary stood at 690 tons, increasing by 1.8% on the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 704 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 33%.

For the fourth consecutive year, Hungary recorded growth in supplies from abroad of fruit, edible; apples, dried, which increased by 22% to 35 tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +22.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +82.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, fruit, edible; apples, dried imports fell notably to $162K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $220K, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
