In December 2023, the average import price for frozen raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black-, white- or red currants and gooseberrieses amounted to $3,034 per ton, rising by 7.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The import price peaked at $4,797 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($3,943 per ton), while the price for China ($1,389 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 119% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $11,777 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($6,616 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($3,942 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of frozen raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black-, white- or red currants and gooseberrieses decreased by -38.3% to 16K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 27K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of frozen raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black-, white- or red currants and gooseberrieses contracted significantly to $68M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the last three-year period.
