Price for Forged Stainless Steel Bar in Germany (FOB) - 2023
The average forged stainless steel bar export price stood at $7,301 per ton in July 2023, with a decrease of -10.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 14% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $8,175 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($10,814 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($4,068 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average forged stainless steel bar import price stood at $6,203 per ton in July 2023, which is down by -32.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 32% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $9,232 per ton in June 2023, and then fell dramatically in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($12,510 per ton), while the price for Luxembourg ($3,500 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Forged Stainless Steel Bar in Germany
In 2022, overseas shipments of forged bars of stainless steel decreased by -10.9% to 22K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 28K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, forged stainless steel bar exports rose sharply to $158M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
