Price for Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
The average import price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines stood at $366 per ton in December 2021, rising by 1.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated moderate growth from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine import price decreased by -26.0% against September 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2021 an increase of 93% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $495 per ton. From October 2021 to December 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($251 per ton), while the price for Singapore totaled $233 per ton.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+0.7%).
Price for Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
The average export price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines stood at $969 per ton in December 2021, jumping by 16% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated buoyant growth from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine export price decreased by -1.6% against October 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2021 an increase of 51% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $984 per ton in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to December 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($2,213 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brunei Darussalam ($444 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+18.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine in Malaysia
In 2022, approx. 15K tons of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines were imported into Malaysia; growing by 8.7% compared with 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports declined slightly to $6M in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 2.5%.
