In December 2023, the average import price for fish; live, ornamental, other than freshwater amounted to $11,489 per ton, rising by 10% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2022 to December 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in December 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($98,242 per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($5,720 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for fish; live, ornamental, other than freshwater stood at $21,133 per ton in December 2023, picking up by 27% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2023 when the average export price increased by 85% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $30,076 per ton. From November 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($112K per ton), while the average price for exports to Bahamas ($6,470 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Dominican Republic (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Fish; Live, Ornamental, Other than Freshwater in the United States
