In 2022, the average import price for fish fillets; frozen, flat fish (pleuronectidae, bothidae, cynoglossidae, soleidae, scophthalmidae and citharidae)s amounted to $23,649 per ton, rising by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 92%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($32,110 per ton), while the price for Iceland ($14,935 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+51.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the export price recorded a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 161% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $5,763 per ton. From July 2023 to January 2024, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($2,860 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($1,131 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +20.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +74.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
