In 2022, the average import price for fish fillets and other fish meat amounted to $5,972 per ton, rising by 13% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for fish fillets and other fish meat increased by +83.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($10,150 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($2,640 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for fish fillets and other fish meat stood at $10,390 per ton in September 2023, dropping by -10% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 29% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $12,880 per ton. From May 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($13,631 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($7,269 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Fish Fillets and Other Fish Meat in Greece
In 2022, the amount of fish fillets and other fish meat imported into Greece skyrocketed to 17K tons, increasing by 21% on 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable decrease.
