The average import price for fish; edible offal, fish heads, tails and mawses stood at $6,145 per ton in December 2023, with an increase of 77% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 an increase of 144% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $15,885 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($12,597 per ton), while the price for China ($2,915 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for fish; edible offal, fish heads, tails and mawses amounted to $2,600 per ton, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for fish; edible offal, fish heads, tails and mawses increased by +29.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 23%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,712 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($2,799 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($2,204 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
