In August 2023, the average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steels amounted to $380 per ton, with a decrease of -5% against the previous month. Over the last ten-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 11% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $464 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($976 per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($338 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steels stood at $403 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -11.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 94% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,126 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($541 per ton), while the price for Italy ($50 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
