The average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels stood at $1,216 per ton in January 2024, which is down by -5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2023 an increase of 47% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,716 per ton. From October 2023 to January 2024, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was India ($2,224 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($327 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels amounted to $3,355 per ton, reducing by -29.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed notable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 84% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,740 per ton, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($33,125 per ton), while the price for Sweden ($1,655 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+27.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
