The average powders of pig iron import price stood at $1,892 per ton in June 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 8% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,963 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Romania ($2,342 per ton), while the price for France ($621 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Powders of Pig Iron in Italy
In 2022, powders of pig iron imports into Italy shrank modestly to 45K tons, reducing by -1.9% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 45K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, powders of pig iron imports rose rapidly to $85M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
