The average import price for ferrous waste and scrap; of alloy steel (excluding stainless)s stood at $217 per ton in February 2024, growing by 7.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $243 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to February 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2024, the country with the highest price was Australia ($272 per ton), while the price for Germany ($160 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2023 to February 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,096 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
