Price for Cyanides and Cyanide Oxides; of Sodium in China (FOB) - 2023
The average export price for cyanides and cyanide oxides; of sodia stood at $2,303 per ton in December 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.4% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,473 per ton. From July 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Turkey ($2,604 per ton) and Russia ($2,516 per ton), while the average price for exports to Peru ($2,044 per ton) and Mexico ($2,051 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tajikistan (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Cyanides and Cyanide Oxides; of Sodium in China (CIF) - 2022
The average import price for cyanides and cyanide oxides; of sodia stood at $2,396 per ton in 2022, growing by 2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,304 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Japan.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Japan amounted to -0.5% per year.
Exports of Cyanides and Cyanide Oxides; of Sodium in China
For the fourth consecutive year, China recorded growth in overseas shipments of cyanides and cyanide oxides; of sodia, which increased by 16% to 167K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, exports of cyanides and cyanide oxides; of sodia skyrocketed to $326M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +12.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, overseas purchases of cyanides and cyanide oxides; of sodia were finally on the rise to reach 240 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible slump.
In value terms, imports of cyanides and cyanide oxides; of sodia soared to $575K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible curtailment.
