In December 2023, the average import price for phosphinates (hypophosphites), phosphonates (phosphites), phosphates and polyphosphateses amounted to $729 per ton, which is down by -58% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 91% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,898 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($1,980 per ton), while the price for Russia ($431 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,449 per ton. From February 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Swaziland ($976 per ton) and Zambia ($898 per ton), while the average price for exports to Botswana ($660 per ton) and Malawi ($684 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
