Price for Copper; Waste and Scrap in Tunisia (FOB) - 2022

The average copper; waste and scrap export price stood at $6,599 per ton in December 2022, surging by 3.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when the average export price increased by 16% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $7,924 per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to December 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was Germany ($7,869 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($3,650 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average copper; waste and scrap import price stood at $4,323 per ton in 2022, waning by -4.9% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, copper; waste and scrap import price increased by +74.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,548 per ton in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($10,602 per ton), while the price for Libya ($354 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Copper; Waste and Scrap in Tunisia

In 2022, shipments abroad of copper; waste and scraps decreased by -26.5% to 13K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 115% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 21K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, copper; waste and scrap exports dropped markedly to $90M in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 137%.

In general, imports continue to indicate a precipitous decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 550 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, copper; waste and scrap imports reduced markedly to $240K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 27%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2.1M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
