Price for Copper; Refined and Copper Alloys, Unwrought in Poland (FOB) - 2023

In December 2023, the average export price for copper; refined and copper alloys, unwroughts amounted to $8,846 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.2% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $9,050 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($8,965 per ton) and Italy ($8,954 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($8,113 per ton) and Turkey ($8,695 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for copper; refined and copper alloys, unwroughts stood at $7,417 per ton in December 2023, dropping by -4.8% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2022 to December 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 an increase of 20% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $8,661 per ton in October 2023; however, from November 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($10,828 per ton), while the price for Germany ($6,965 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of copper; refined and copper alloys, unwroughts decreased by -2.9% to 287K tons in 2022. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 1.5%.

Overall, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the last three years.
