In October 2023, the average export price for coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds amounted to $545 per ton, growing by 7.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 14% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in October 2023.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($721 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($515 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds stood at $398 per ton in October 2023, dropping by -17.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a slight expansion from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, import price for coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds increased by +35.5% against August 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 86% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $481 per ton in September 2023, and then contracted significantly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the UK ($573 per ton), while the price for Peru ($322 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+55.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 109%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
