The average chromium ore and concentrate import price stood at $348 per ton in September 2023, jumping by 104% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a slight increase from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, chromium ore and concentrate import price increased by +104.0% against August 2023 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

The average chromium ore and concentrate export price stood at $671 per ton in September 2023, approximately equating the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a noticeable expansion from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, chromium ore and concentrate export price decreased by +0.7% against August 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 45% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $816 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($834 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($566 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
