Price for Cereals; Maize (Corn), Seed in Uganda (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average cereals; maize (corn), seed export price amounted to $2,267 per ton, with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cereals; maize (corn), seed export price decreased by -27.3% against 2019 indices. The export price peaked at $3,119 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United Arab Emirates.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Tanzania amounted to +7.5% per year.

In 2022, the average cereals; maize (corn), seed import price amounted to $1,835 per ton, with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 72%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,816 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($25,303 per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($1,573 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+34.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Cereals; Maize (Corn), Seed in Uganda

Cereals; maize (corn), seed exports from Uganda expanded markedly to 14K tons in 2022, with an increase of 12% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 42%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 19K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cereals; maize (corn), seed exports skyrocketed to $31M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline.
