Price for Cereals; Maize (Corn), Other than Seed in India (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average export price for cereals; maize (corn), other than seeds amounted to $266 per ton, leveling off at the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. The export price peaked at $308 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Sri Lanka ($346 per ton) and Malaysia ($279 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($235 per ton) and Nepal ($248 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sri Lanka (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In July 2023, the average import price for cereals; maize (corn), other than seeds amounted to $649 per ton, increasing by 26% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 643% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,626 per ton. From April 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.
From November 2022 to July 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Brazil amounted to 0.0% per month.
Exports of Cereals; Maize (Corn), Other than Seed in India
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of cereals; maize (corn), other than seeds decreased by -2.6% to 3.5M tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 388%.
In value terms, exports of cereals; maize (corn), other than seeds surged to $1.1B in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 250%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
