In September 2023, the average import price for cereal groats and meal; of wheats amounted to $761 per ton, shrinking by -3.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 5.6% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $860 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($2,554 per ton), while the price for Morocco ($771 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the export price recorded a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 28% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $893 per ton. From May 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the UK ($895 per ton) and Benin ($729 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($606 per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($637 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
