The average export price for cereal groats and meal; of maize (corn)s stood at $507 per ton in December 2023, falling by -13.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 7.4% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $689 per ton. From September 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Mexico ($546 per ton) and Lesotho ($520 per ton), while the average price for exports to Haiti ($426 per ton) and Canada ($493 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
