Price for Candy, Sweets, and Nonchocolate Confectionery in Myanmar (CIF) - 2022

The average import price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery stood at $6,117 per ton in December 2022, picking up by 102% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a buoyant expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($7,603 per ton), while the price for India ($2,200 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+21.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery amounted to $821 per ton, increasing by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 54%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,857 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($5,340 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($494 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+26.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Candy, Sweets, and Nonchocolate Confectionery in Myanmar

For the third year in a row, Myanmar recorded decline in supplies from abroad of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery, which decreased by -13.2% to 2.3K tons in 2022. In general, imports showed a deep reduction. The smallest decline of -5.1% was in 2020.

In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports reduced to $6.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt setback.

In 2022, shipments abroad of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery decreased by -39.9% to 6.8 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 1,536% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 24 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports shrank sharply to $5.6K in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 700% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $22K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
