Price for Camel and Other Animal Meat in the United States (CIF) - 2023

In December 2023, the average import price for meat of camels and other animals amounted to $6,254 per ton, with a decrease of -12.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 an increase of 22% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $7,996 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($17,142 per ton), while the price for China ($2,282 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Price for Camel and Other Animal Meat in the United States (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average export price for meat of camels and other animals amounted to $5,709 per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, camel and other animal meat export price decreased by -8.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $6,211 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($23,430 per ton), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($1,394 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+21.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Camel and Other Animal Meat in the United States

In 2022, the amount of meat of camels and other animals imported into the United States expanded notably to 8K tons, surging by 9.2% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 48%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports skyrocketed to $53M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year.
