In 2022, the average import price for briquettes, ovoids and similar solid fuels; manufactured from coals amounted to $81 per ton, dropping by -85.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 588% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,577 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($293 per ton), while the price for Kenya totaled $79 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+17.3%).

The average export price for briquettes, ovoids and similar solid fuels; manufactured from coals stood at $254 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -3% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for briquettes, ovoids and similar solid fuels; manufactured from coals decreased by -5.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $268 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kenya.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kenya amounted to +3.7% per year.

For the fourth consecutive year, Uganda recorded growth in supplies from abroad of briquettes, ovoids and similar solid fuels; manufactured from coals, which increased by 1,248% to 135 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 2,029%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, imports of briquettes, ovoids and similar solid fuels; manufactured from coals skyrocketed to $11K in 2022. Overall, imports saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 4,929% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
