The average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $825 per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 8.9% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $957 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($871 per ton), while the price for South Africa stood at $825 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-0.4%).

In 2022, the average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $774 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,129 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($1,427 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Sudan ($562 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Apples, pears and quinces; fresh imports into Kenya declined to 17K tons in 2022, which is down by -7% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 19K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
