Price for Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Chile (FOB) - 2023
The average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $932 per ton in May 2023, falling by -4.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price faced a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 19% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $5,297 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to May 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,227 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($813 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Peru (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $1,741 per ton, growing by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight setback. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,924 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($2,034 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($1,332 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Chile
For the third year in a row, Chile recorded decline in overseas shipments of apples, pears and quinces; freshes, which decreased by -6.9% to 719K tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The smallest decline of -0.3% was in 2021.
In value terms, apples, pears and quinces; fresh exports shrank to $709M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 5.1% against the previous year.
