In July 2023, the average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $5,849 per ton, declining by -4.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 29% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $7,136 per ton. From March 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($7,836 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($2,515 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $10,656 per ton, reducing by -14.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 25% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $14,846 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($24,104 per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($3,945 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of anise, badian, fennel and coriander, when their volume decreased by -0.6% to 1.4K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.4K tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports amounted to $7M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +65.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
