Ginger Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average ginger import price amounted to $3,734 per ton, growing by 2.3% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a measured increase from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, ginger import price increased by +30.8% against January 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 21% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($4,483 per ton), while the price for Peru ($2,347 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uganda (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ginger Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023
The average ginger export price stood at $4,383 per ton in July 2023, picking up by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a tangible expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, ginger export price decreased by -1.8% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 52% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $4,464 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,633 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($3,266 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ginger Imports in Germany
For the fourth year in a row, Germany recorded growth in purchases abroad of ginger, which increased by 5.4% to 38K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +47.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 27%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, ginger imports fell to $93M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 36% against the previous year.

For the fourth year in a row, Germany recorded growth in shipments abroad of ginger, which increased by 14% to 8.5K tons in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, ginger exports reduced to $27M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.8% over the last three-year period.
