Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $1,718 per ton in 2022, which is down by -7.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 37%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,858 per ton, and then contracted in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($1,874 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($1,362 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,319 per ton, reducing by -2.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a buoyant increase. The import price peaked at $1,767 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($2,118 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia totaled $897 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+36.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Sri Lanka

In 2022, aluminium waste and scrap exports from Sri Lanka declined dramatically to 1.7K tons, waning by -30.4% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 155% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 2.4K tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports reduced notably to $2.9M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 249% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $4.5M, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Sri Lanka

In 2022, the amount of aluminium waste and scraps imported into Sri Lanka skyrocketed to 379 tons, rising by 23% against 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 519 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports soared to $500K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a mild slump.
