Price for Aluminium; Tubes and Pipes in South Africa (FOB) - 2023
The average aluminium; tubes and pipes export price stood at $6,880 per ton in July 2023, with a decrease of -5.5% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a measured expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, aluminium; tubes and pipes export price decreased by -9.9% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $7,633 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the Netherlands ($8,658 per ton) and Mexico ($8,102 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($6,402 per ton) and Spain ($6,471 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average aluminium; tubes and pipes import price amounted to $4,095 per ton, dropping by -3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $5,417 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
