In 2022, the average export price for aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s amounted to $3,948 per ton, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($7,455 per ton), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($3,442 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $3,526 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to January 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was the United States ($12,680 per ton), while the price for China ($2,444 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
