In December 2023, the average export price for aluminium oxide (including artificial corundum); aluminium hydroxide amounted to $584 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 36% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,147 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($811 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($440 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average import price for aluminium oxide (including artificial corundum); aluminium hydroxide amounted to $536 per ton, rising by 25% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for aluminium oxide (including artificial corundum); aluminium hydroxide increased by +60.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 63%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $730 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($2,800 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($377 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
