Preserved Sauerkraut Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023

The average preserved sauerkraut import price stood at $1,925 per ton in September 2023, shrinking by -12.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 an increase of 27% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,638 per ton. From August 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($6,011 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($1,238 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Sauerkraut Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average preserved sauerkraut export price amounted to $2,055 per ton, dropping by -21.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 29% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $3,149 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($4,193 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($1,267 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Sauerkraut Imports in Latvia

Preserved sauerkraut imports into Latvia shrank modestly to 3.1K tons in 2022, which is down by -2% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 3.2K tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, preserved sauerkraut imports reduced to $5.5M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 15%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $5.6M, and then declined modestly in the following year.
