Preserved Sauerkraut Price in Croatia (FOB) - 2023

The average preserved sauerkraut export price stood at $2,470 per ton in August 2023, reducing by -25.2% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a mild expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, preserved sauerkraut export price decreased by -25.2% against July 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2023 an increase of 27% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,302 per ton, and then reduced markedly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($3,187 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($1,724 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average preserved sauerkraut import price stood at $2,170 per ton in 2022, waning by -1.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $2,204 per ton in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($2,498 per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($1,315 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Sauerkraut Exports in Croatia

In 2022, overseas shipments of preserved sauerkraut decreased by -1.2% to 5.6K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 11%.

In value terms, preserved sauerkraut exports totaled $12M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
