Preserved Peas Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average preserved peas import price amounted to $1,498 per ton, rising by 1.5% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 30% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,817 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,431 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,207 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Peas Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2022

The average preserved peas export price stood at $1,680 per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,683 per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($3,348 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($1,423 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Peas Imports in Latvia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of preserved peas decreased by -9.8% to 2.6K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 7.4% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved peas imports dropped modestly to $3.6M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year.

For the third consecutive year, Latvia recorded decline in overseas shipments of preserved peas, which decreased by -4% to 134 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a deep contraction.

In value terms, preserved peas exports shrank slightly to $225K in 2022. In general, exports saw a perceptible curtailment. The smallest decline of -0.8% was in 2020.
