Preserved Beef Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average preserved beef import price amounted to $12,577 per ton, which is down by -5.2% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a moderate expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, preserved beef import price increased by +60.9% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 70% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $13,875 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($16,016 per ton), while the price for Canada stood at $8,944 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+0.7%).
Preserved Beef Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average preserved beef export price amounted to $11,197 per ton, picking up by 32% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 136% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $16,506 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($21,600 per ton), while the average price for exports to Guatemala ($6,951 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Dominican Republic (+60.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Beef Imports in the United States
In 2022, preserved beef imports into the United States dropped to 315 tons, reducing by -13.4% compared with the year before. In general, imports saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 8.6% against the previous year.
In value terms, preserved beef imports fell to $3M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $3.4M, and then shrank in the following year.

Preserved Beef Exports in the United States
In 2022, shipments abroad of beef and veal (salted, in brine, dried or smoked) decreased by -26% to 305 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 501% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1.1K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preserved beef exports reduced sharply to $2.8M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 331% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $7.6M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
