Potato Chips Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2023

The average potato chips import price stood at $7,668 per ton in July 2023, increasing by 11% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $10,964 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($10,657 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($1,454 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Potato Chips Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average potato chips export price amounted to $5,870 per ton, which is down by -4.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 33% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $6,795 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($11,186 per ton), while the average price for exports to Tonga ($1,420 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to American Samoa (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Potato Chips Imports in New Zealand

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of potato chips decreased by -39.6% to 2K tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 68% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.4K tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, potato chips imports reached $16M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

For the fourth consecutive year, New Zealand recorded growth in shipments abroad of potato chips, which increased by 58% to 1.3K tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +59.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, potato chips exports surged to $7.3M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a significant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
