In value terms, polyethylene imports rose modestly to $36.6B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $34.2B, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Exports By Country

Saudi Arabia (4.3M tons) and the United States (3.7M tons) represented roughly 32% of total exports in 2022. The global export price peaked at $1,531 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
