Plywood Price in Kenya (CIF) - 2022

The average plywood import price stood at $224 per cubic meter in 2022, waning by -6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 16%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $552 per cubic meter. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($523 per cubic meter), while the price for Uganda ($201 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malawi (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Plywood Price in Kenya (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average plywood export price amounted to $175 per cubic meter, declining by -54.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $449 per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($784 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to China ($96 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Zambia (+18.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plywood Imports in Kenya

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of plywood, when their volume decreased by -41.1% to 113K cubic meters. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 47%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 191K cubic meters in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, plywood imports fell significantly to $25M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $46M in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Plywood Exports in Kenya

Plywood exports from Kenya reached 427 cubic meters in 2022, increasing by 1.7% on 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 447 cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plywood exports reduced sharply to $75K in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a sharp decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 108%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $181K in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
