Plastic Support Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average plastic support import price amounted to $4,157 per ton, shrinking by -18.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 11% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $5,993 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($8,816 per ton), while the price for India ($562 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Plastic Support Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023
The average plastic support export price stood at $6,850 per ton in September 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 5.1% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $6,986 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In September 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the Philippines ($6,987 per ton) and South Africa ($6,987 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($6,031 per ton) and Papua New Guinea ($6,985 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plastic Support Imports in Australia
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics decreased by -7% to 32K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 7.3% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 34K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, plastic support imports expanded significantly to $182M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +12.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
