Plastic Closure Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average plastic closure import price amounted to $5,587 per ton, with a decrease of -6.3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 8.6% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $6,569 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($15,603 per ton), while the price for the Dominican Republic ($1,555 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Plastic Closure Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average plastic closure export price stood at $11,698 per ton in August 2023, which is down by -9.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 10% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $14,026 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($29,621 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Dominican Republic ($3,519 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Plastic Closure Imports in the United States
In 2022, plastic closure imports into the United States soared to 242K tons, rising by 45% compared with 2021. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, plastic closure imports expanded notably to $1.5B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +11.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Plastic Closure Exports in the United States
For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in overseas shipments of plastic stoppers, caps and closures, which increased by 6.5% to 274K tons in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 65%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, plastic closure exports expanded rapidly to $1B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
