Plastic Bottle Price in America Remains Stable at $4.8K per Ton
U.S. Plastic Bottle Import Price per Ton August 2022
In August 2022, the plastic bottle price per ton stood at $4.8K(CIF, US), rising by 3.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 an increase of 8.3% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4.9K per ton. From June 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($6.9K per ton), while the price for Turkey ($2.3K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Plastic Bottle Imports
In August 2022, after three months of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics, when their volume decreased by -8.5% to 22K tons. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 26% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 28K tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plastic bottle imports fell slightly to $107M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 25% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $125M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
U.S. Plastic Bottle Imports by Country
Canada (8.6K tons), China (6.2K tons) and Mexico (1.8K tons) were the main suppliers of plastic bottle imports to the United States, with a combined 74% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Canada (with a CAGR of +1.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, China ($36M), Canada ($31M) and Mexico ($9.9M) constituted the largest plastic bottle suppliers to the United States, together accounting for 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), South Korea, the Dominican Republic, Turkey and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 14%.
Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +3.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
