The average pharmaceutical goods import price stood at $72,047 per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, pharmaceutical goods import price decreased by -31.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 48%. The import price peaked at $104,875 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($189,488 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($12,307 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average pharmaceutical goods export price stood at $64,332 per ton in March 2022, jumping by 48% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2021 an increase of 234% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $70,443 per ton in June 2021; however, from July 2021 to March 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($147K per ton), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso ($43,424 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Senegal (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Pharmaceutical goods imports into Indonesia expanded markedly to 552 tons in 2022, surging by 9.1% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 19%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, pharmaceutical goods imports rose remarkably to $40M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible downturn.

Pharmaceutical goods exports from Indonesia skyrocketed to 374 tons in 2022, jumping by 49% against the previous year. Overall, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 105% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 476 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pharmaceutical goods exports expanded significantly to $18M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% over the last three years.
